Restaurants offering healthy fare in Fort Worth, Texas.

Fred's Cafe This classic greasy-spoon burger joint serves a  tasty 'shroom burger. The Portabello tacos were good grazin' but remember to say 'cut the cheese' if that is your preference. Blue-plate special for lunch consisted of three choices when we were there: chicken-fried steak, spaghetti, or four-vegetable plate. Outside area with week-end entertainment, weather permitting. Burgers 915 Currie St, Fort Worth. 817 332-0083 H-HH $

Grape Escape This wine bar has a well-educated staff to suggest certain grazing foods for the wines you are sampling. Small and intimate with few plant-based selections.   Certainly worth a drive from anywhere in metroplex but bring your designated driver or take a long walking tour of downtown Fort Worth before driving home. Don't drink and drive! Wine Bar 500 Commerce, Fort Worth. 817 336-9463 H-HH $$

Hedary's Try the falafel dishes and the traditional hummus. A few plant-based selections in this old Fort Worth favorite with its traditional Lebanese fare. Lebanese 3308 Fairfield, Fort Worth. 817 731-6961 H-HH $$-$$$$

Hot Damn, Tamales Austin tamale business moved to Fort Worth offers mostly meatless, but cheese-laden tamales with at least two totally plant-based tamales. One of two tables but take out and catering is best at this time. And damn good tamales they are! Mexican 713 W Magnolia, Ft Worth. 817 926-9909 H-HH  $

Restaurants serving some entrees totally plant-based and free of animal fats and animal products in Fort Worth, TX.

Sundance Market & Deli Veggie plate and design your own sandwich for plant-based choices. Market, deli, restaurant, bakery, coffeehouse, relaxed break spot. Deli 353 Throckmorton, Fort Worth. 817 335-3354 H-HH $

Yoshi's Japanese Fast Food Several apparent vegetarian choices but no one could say if the restaurant used fish broth. No real atmosphere but lots of salt here. Japanese 3000 S. Hulen, Ft Wroth 817 737-5700 H-HH $

The Fort Worth restaurant scene could use some health! The following restaurants serve very few healthy entrees. However, if you are nearby or have another reason to go there (such as romantic ambience), you should be able to find one or maybe two healthy entrees.

Souper Salad Salad bar, soup, baked potato spot. The five totally plant-based soups are butterbean, vegetarian vegetable,  vegetable lentil, mushroom barley, and, minestrone. Call ahead and go over only if at least one soup is plant-based. Salad bar. 6109 817 737-9447. 4714 SW Loop 820  817 732-9494. Fort Worth. H $

Sardine's Ristorante  Old photos & artifacts, candle light & antiques, create a romantic setting. Live music, excellent Italian Cuisine. Vegetable lasagna, manicotti are available as is fettuccine with a tomato cream sauce. No dishes for the totally plant-based diner, though. Italian 3410 Camp Bowie, Fort Worth 817 332-9937 H RRRR $$-$$$

Saint-Emilion Country French cuisine, romantic atmosphere, and attentive service.  Dinner veggie plate is the only healthy selection. French 3617 W 7th, Fort Worth. 817 737-2781 H RRR $$$-$$$$

La Madeleine Country cozy spot excellent for sharing a continental breakfast with fruit. Also grilled veggie sandwich. French Bakery 6140 Camp Bowie, Fort Worth. 817 654-0471 H R $

Fresh Choice  Another disappointing dining experience. Such a healthy and appealing name really knows how to serve up the fat. The salad bar is extensive, but the amount of cheese and dairy used in the other foods here is astounding and unavoidable. All-you-can-eat buffet and salad bar  but about the only way to eat a reasonable amount of fat here is to eat salad. Buffet 3010 S Hulen, Fort Worth. 817 738-9878 H $

Cabo Cabo bills itself as the original 'Mix-Mex' grill--a spicy blend of South and Central American flavors with the influence of Yucatan & Southwestern spices. The grilled veggie taco, wrapped in corn tortillas so thin and tender they could have been crepes, was different, spicy, and delicious. There is a small patio between the buildings which is perfect in the right weather. South American 115 W Second St, Fort Worth. 817 348-8226 H R $

Bella Italia West Two plant-based dishes on menu plus others via special order. This is a romantic, candlelit restaurant. Softly glowing candlelight, classic service, fresh flowers,  make this a memorable evening for two.  Italian 5139 Camp Bowie, Fort Worth. 817 738-1700 H RRR $$$-$$$$

Back Porch Healthy dishes are primarily salad bar and pizza with no cheese. Burgers 3400 Camp Bowie, #B, Fort Worth. 817 332-1422 H $
