A duct blaster test combines a small fan and a pressure gauge to pressurize a house’s duct system and accurately measure air leakage of the ductwork. Again, it can be assumed that ducts leak in an existing home so it could be considered a test to be done at completion of energy-efficient repairs just as it is done in new construction. If a home is insulated with open cell foam under the roof rafters of the attic, duct leakage is not a large problem unless the building has overly cold or warm rooms. Another reason not to do the duct blaster test until after the home energy-efficiency remodel is complete. Before you sign on the dotted line to buy an existing home or singing the contract to build a hew home, there is a good use for the duct blaster test. Click here. For
