Note: The area under the curves in the graph above represents the amount of water in storage at the end of each month. The assumptions are:

  • A Dallas family of three.

  • 1,000 gallons to start.

  • Each member uses 33 gallons per day for indoor use.

  • Irrigation demand of 150 gallons from March through October.

  • A collection efficiency of 85%.

  • A roof area of 2500 SF.

The upper curve denotes water availability using average monthly rainfall data. The lower curve is based on the monthly median rainfall. A 10,000-gallon cistern is used for storage of rainwater.
