When your goal is to improve the energy-efficiency of your home and thus reduce your utility bills and be a good steward of this planet, you need to address four main aspects of energy use and comfort. These tests are sometimes, but not always, used in a home audit or survey:

• Infiltration is  determined by a blower door test and an energy audit by an experienced person. 

• Distribution of air is determined by a duct blaster test and an energy audit by an experienced person. 

• Detect thermal defects and air leakage in building envelopes and in attic insulations with an infrared camera.

• Radiation is determined by a visual energy audit by an experienced person.

• Comfort is determined by a visual energy audit by an experienced person.

After the energy audit is finished, expect to receive a report which reveals:

• A prioritized list of what home improvements you need for energy efficiency.

• An estimate (not a bid per say) of what these home improvements will probably cost.
