Green Building Glossary

Air  moves in and out of our homes (or in and out of our thermal envelope) primarily because of the differences in air pressure between the outside of our home and the inside of our home.

Although we can control air pressure to some degree, we are considerably more successful in eliminating the holes.

Wielding a caulking gun and complete weatherization are paramount in filling holes.

Weatherization is certainly a job you can do yourself, or you can hire a professional--or hire outside help for part of the job--like the part that involves ladders, for example.

Stack Effect
Every cubic foot of warm in winter (cool in summer) air leaving your home brings in another cubic foot of air that is cold (hot).
