The cost of comfort is going up. We all know it but maybe we have not really thought out what that means.

We will either pay the increased costs of comfort from energy supplied by an ever decreasing supply of fossil fuels or we will pay the costs of renewable energy.

One way or another, and like it or not, energy from fossil fuels (past sunlight) is on a short road to oblivion. Our guture will us living more and more on current sunlight--directly in the form of solar radiation and indirectly as it is stored by plants or it is moved by water/air.

Comfort Budget

A good question for each of us to ask ourselves is , "How much can I spend each year to be comfortable?"

Quickly followed by, "How much am I willing to spend each year to be comfortable?"

We might even consider ourselves on an energy budget as far as comfort is concerned. The more energy inefficient our home is, of course, the higher our budget must be for us to remain comfortable.

Tax Incentives

More than a few of us were waiting for a tax incentive for installing renewable energy. Since it looks unlikely that the present government of the State of Texas will do anything positive about tax incentives, we were hoping the feds would do it.

And against all expectations from this non-energy friendly regime, they did it.

For those of us who are the proactive types and who are also planning a home remodeling project, now just might be the best time to bite the renewable bullet.
