Vegetarian of the Year: 2002

Since 1997, every Sunday and every major holiday, James Bisby has hosted a vegetarian luncheon in the Dallas area with his creation The Dallas Vegetarian Lunch Group. It was often the first contact new vegetarians had with a compatible group. It was also the spot where most of us learned where the vegetarian action was in DFW because James and the people who attended his group comprised the encyclopedia of vegetarian happenings and information for the metroplex.

The Dallas Vegetarian Lunch Group made it easy to get those first vegetarian questions answered such as, "How long does refrigerated soy milk last?" or "How do I use tofu?".

The Dallas Vegetarian Lunch Group offered an opportunity to make like-minded friends and acquaintances while offering support to vegetarian restaurants in Dallas and Richardson.

The Dallas Vegetarian Lunch Group also made it easy for the Vegetarian Society of DFW to organize; James' group provided all of the original members.

Five years is a long time to do this and on December 31, 2002, James hosted his last event at Veggie Garden.

I think it would be safe to say that no other individual to date has done more for vegetarianism in DFW than James.

James Bisby, the vegetarian community salutes you for a wonderful five years of unselfish service to the vegetarian cause.
