Moisture, Aging, and Skin Care
Moisture is what keeps the skin soft and supple. Moisture is what makes the
skin look and feel young.
Skin is affected by many things such as:
I have dry skin. My mother has dry skin. And so did my grandmother. I can't control my genes. But I can control my skin care program and my exposure to sun.
Since you can't control age or genes, good skin care is a must! It will revolve around your skin type and lifestyle. How you care for your skin affects how you look.
Today, almost any dermatologist would agree that men and women who consistently practice good skin care, which includes wearing adequate sunscreen, will usually look younger longer than men or women who don't.
It is very important to know your skin type (oily, dry, combination, or normal) and build your skin care program around that type. Oil glands tend to be most active in the T-zone of your face. That is the area forming a T across the forehead and down the center of the face. It is almost always more oily than the rest of your face, even if that difference is not great.
For any skin care program to be effective, consistency is very important. It is also better to stick with one brand because most brands are formulated to work together.
Apply your moisturizer when your skin is still damp from the shower for the best results.
Don't forget to moisturize your body as well as your face. Arms and legs are vulnerable to dryness but hands, elbows, and feet are even more vulnerable. Again, apply after bathing when skin is still damp. For best results, moisturize skin twice daily or more often if skin feels taut. Dry skin is tight, flaky, and scaly.
It is most important to always wear a sunscreen to protect your face and other exposed areas. Exposure to sunlight is the leading cause of skin cancer and premature aging of the skin.
